My Values

Student Achievement

Public schools exists so that every child has an opportunity to succeed in life. Success often means attending college, but also includes trade school, apprenticeships, military service, volunteering with humanitarian aid groups, or straight into the workforce. A school district should work to enable all outcomes and have curriculum that prepares students for success in life regardless of path.

Fiscal Responsibility

The tax funding provided by the community comes with the expectation of sound financial practices. Wasteful spending is unacceptable and I am committed to thorough oversight of all spending decisions to ensure the efficient use of the budget.

Great schools result in immediate value for the community through increased home values. Fiscal responsibility of district finances means considering those impacts on taxpayers. Decisions that are detrimental to the long-term reputation of the district and make it unattractive to future home buyers are fiscally irresponsible.

Teachers and Staff

Highly-qualified empowered teachers and staff lead to the best outcomes for students and are the most fiscally responsible way to achieve success. Alongside those teachers, students rely on the contributions of counselors, librarians, custodians, drivers, office administrators, and everyone else required to run a school. To attract, develop, and maintain all of those individuals requires a supportive environment that fosters their passion for education. Actions of the board, the administration, families, and the community at large influence that environment. Board members should conduct themselves as leaders in creating a positive climate and set an example for all to follow.

Parents’ Rights

Families are integral to student success. Parents and guardians should be involved in decisions that involve their child’s education. Therefore, parents have the right to opt their child out of topics they disagree with for personal reasons. Likewise, parents have the right to ensure their student’s education is not restricted by others. The school board should protect all parents’ rights.

Community Involvement

It is not possible to support our students by relying only on employees and immediate families. The school board can foster community involvement and grow local pride by guiding healthy interaction with the community along with maintaining open communication.
